  • Consulting with Individuals Competencies

    Individual-Level Competencies (Sessions 1-6)

    Individual assessment for purposes of career and vocational assessment.

    1. Knowledge: Be able to define what the term “career” means, such that they can consciously recognize a person with the need for career help generally and career assessment specifically.
    2. Knowledge: Be able to define what the term “assessment” means and to identify top career assessment tools given the client’s need and life situation (age, history, opportunities, family context).
    3. Skill: Be able to understand their readiness (and other development needs) to administer a standard battery of career assessment tools (Career Needs checklist, Bio data form, Strong Interest Inventory and Skills Confidence Survey, Myer’s Briggs Type Indicator)

    Job analysis for purposes of individual assessment

    1. Knowledge: Be able to define the term job analysis.
    2. Knowledge: Know how to proceed in an assessment with different levels of information.
    3. Skill: Have the tools to do a basic job analysis.

    Individual assessment for purposes of employee selection & development.

    1. Knowledge:  Be able to define what the terms“ selection” means - such that you can consciously recognize the three types of selection assessment: advisory, pass/fail, and developmental hybrid. Be able to define the term “development” or “developmental” assessment. 
    2. Skill: Learn how to do a selection and developmental assessment.
    3. Skill: Determine whether to conduct a selection or developmental assessment or meet a different client need – such as a structural/organizational intervention, outplacement, career coaching.
    4. Skill: Learn to how present information to clients.

    Executive and individual coaching (part 1 of a 2 session coverage of the topic)

    1. Knowledge: Be able to define the term coaching.
    2. Knowledge: Know at least one "road map" or project plan for conducting effective and comprehensive coaching.
    3. Skill: Be able to apply the skills you already posses from graduate school, clinical or counseling practice to deliver a straightforward coaching project.

    Executive and individual coaching (part 2 of a 2 session coverage of the topic)

    1. Knowledge: Be able to define the term coaching.
    2. Knowledge: Know at least one "road map" or project plan for conducting effective and comprehensive coaching.
